Date: October 10, 2024

Time: 8 – 9 pm ET

Speaker: George Mandelaris, DDS, MS

COURSE DESCRIPION

Patients seeking ideal esthetics may require a more sophisticated diagnosis and treatment plan than what restorative dentistry or conventional orthodontic treatment may offer alone. In order to optimize esthetics and function, patients may choose to have the interdisciplinary team utilize orthognathic surgery and surgically facilitated orthodontic therapy (SFOT) to optimize conditions for homeostasis of the periodontal tissues and balance of dentofacial disharmonies. Surgical, orthodontic and restorative perspectives will be presented from a tooth-tooth, tooth-jaw, jaw-jaw and jaws-face context to challenge the IDT team to move beyond traditional therapies into a new frontier for enhanced outcomes.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• To appreciate the limitations of restorative dentistry and conventional orthodontics in treating the patient with esthetic dental needs.

• To review IDT diagnostic modalities critical to treatment planning of the interdisciplinary patient requiring restorative, orthodontic, periodontal surgery

• To discuss the role of SFOT in phenotype modification therapy and in the management of dental and skeletal malocclusions

• To present how SFOT can complement interdisciplinary treatment, ultimately ensuring esthetic and functional outcome success for the restorative specialist.

Mastering Treatment Planning

 MASTERING TREATMENT PLANNING

Course Description

In our discussions with participants in both the Essentials and Mastery level courses, we continue to hear the desire to help establish better systems for treatment planning and presentation. These conversations typically revolve around ‘where to start’ with a complex case. We both have participants we remain in contact with, both as friends and colleagues, who continue to require guidance on treatment planning these cases. The need remains for continued learning and guidance, hopefully through the development of a repeatable system, that can help participants gain confidence in applying the knowledge we know they have to planning and treating more complex dentistry. This course is different from the Case Acceptance Course, as our goal is to help develop systems around data collection, planning and sequencing, not so much patient engagement and co-discovery. We intend to build upon the foundation that the Essentials have established and provide a bridge for those seeking to fully implement their learning and eventually progress to Pankey Scholar.

Learning Objectives

  • Create confidence in “The Process” of treatment planning, sequencing, and case presentation.
  • Develop and execute a system for treatment planning complex cases utilizing the concepts learned in the essentials.
  • Understand how to appropriately sequence treatment utilizing the concepts learned in the essentials.
  • Learn how to utilize case presentation and treatment planning to be their “Leader” in care and coordinate with specialists.
  • Engage and Develop team members in the treatment process.
